Master Key Lock
A master keyed lock is actually a lock that's built to be opened up by specific keys, but could also be opened using a master key. A Master Key System includes a hierarchy of keys along with a variety of cylinders or locks that let different or individual key holder gain access to any given parts of a building or buildings.
Master keys are usually being used by apartment owners where they can open each door of their rented rooms/flats, where renters also have their keys for their particular apartment. That same key may also open the main door into their building or other common areas. Unlike Master keys, a tenant's specific key will not work on the lock of a different apartment unit.
Master key systems also involve grand master and sub master keys. You need a master key if you do not want to keep a lot of keys for a lot of doors.
